[Kolab-devel] [issue3582] Kontact/Win errors with too long/reserved file names

New submission from Albrecht Dreß <albrecht.dress at lios-tech.com>:

I got errors using Kontact/Win beta 20090313 when the application tried to
access a shared folder with a deep tree and long folder names. The process
reported the attached errors (upper first, lower after clicking ok). The
"offending" file name is apparently "C:\Dokumente und
Einstellungen\adress\.kde\share\apps\kmail\dimap\.23250.directory\.user.directory\.support.directory\._Controller.directory\.OTS.directory\.__offeneFaelle.directory\Prime
Optical Fiber Corp._Taiwan City sewage plant_Datenbank Probleme.directory" which
exceeds Win's MAX_PATH limit.

As Thomas Arendsen Hein pointed out in the mailing list, some "reserved" names
will also trigger errors (he provided
<http://www.selenic.com/mercurial/wiki/index.cgi/fncacheRepoFormat> as reference).

A possible solution could be some kind of "flattened" tree on Win32, with an
extra look-up table translating the real (deep) IMAP paths into, say, a MD5 hash
which can then safely be used as folder name.
