I didn't find anything about this requirement in rfc2252, only that
continuations can occur in the file but won't be send in the
protocol.

Everyone else seems to use one tab characters with OpenLDAP, and
there even is a manual for an iSeries LDAP server which says "one
space at the end of the continued and at least two spaces at the
beginning of the next line".

I propose one of:
- Revert to the previous style, so people merging in their own
  changes have less problems.
- Use tab instead of space(s).
