Indeed.

Right again. It's single threaded and therefor has to do manual chunking 
to avoid blocking the UI on I/O bound operations. Which means more, 
smaller operations, which is in turn bad for latency.

It's interesting to hear that this is significantly better in 3.5. This 
could be related to the changes in the config writing there, since the 
sync mechanism is fundamentally much the same in both branches. There 
have been other improvements in that branch as well, of course, and a 
3.5 based proko3 (or whatever it will be called) is somethig we (the 
Kolab Konsortium) are trying to fund atm.
