New submission from Bernhard Herzog <bh at intevation.de>:

The Kolab server rejects the MDNs sent by Outlook. The debug output from
kolab_smtppolicy says:

Sep 30 15:09:17 neso /kolab/etc/kolab/kolab_smtpdpolicy[4475]: Checking
sender="", recipient="proko2test4 at test.hq", username="xp at test.hq",
domains=test.hq permithosts=neso.test.hq,hipponoe.test.hq, conf_allowunauth=1
Sep 30 15:09:17 neso /kolab/etc/kolab/kolab_smtpdpolicy[4475]: LDAP search
returned 1 objects
Sep 30 15:09:17 neso /kolab/etc/kolab/kolab_smtpdpolicy[4475]: Translated
username to xp at test.hq
Sep 30 15:09:17 neso /kolab/etc/kolab/kolab_smtpdpolicy[4475]: LDAP search
returned 0 objects
Sep 30 15:09:17 neso /kolab/etc/kolab/kolab_smtpdpolicy[4475]: Attempt to fake
address
Sep 30 15:09:17 neso /kolab/etc/kolab/kolab_smtpdpolicy[4475]: Action: REJECT
Invalid sender

I.e. the sender is empty and the mail is rejected. However,
according to 2298, the stmp mail from MUST be empty:

   The envelope sender address (i.e., SMTP MAIL FROM) of the MDN MUST be
   null (<>), specifying that no Delivery Status Notification messages
   or other messages indicating successful or unsuccessful delivery are
   to be sent in response to an MDN.

So Outlook is actually RFC compliant in this regard.
