Is your /home partition a nfs mount?

No you are reading the error message in the wrong manner. Actually it is not 
stage2/xgcc which is missing but it does not find libiberty.a.

Which platform OS are you using? Slackware?

BTW: I am using a symbolic link for /kolab regularily.
