[Kolab-devel] [issue379] master ldap server doesn't come back up

New submission from Bernhard Herzog <bh at intevation.de>:

It sometimes happens that openldap is restarted successfully. The symptoms are
that authentication doesn't work anymore (e.g. you're thrown out of the
web-interface effectively) and that the shell command

sh -c /kolab/bin/openpkg rc openldap stop; while test -f
/kolab/var/openldap/run/slurpd.pid; do sleep 1; /kolab/bin/openpkg rc openldap
stop; done; /kolab/bin/openpkg rc openldap start

hangs. there are still some slurpd processes around and the slurpd.pid still
exists and is apparently never removed and the above command never leaves the
while loop. Further attempts to stop ldap with "/kolab/bin/openpkg rc openldap
stop" don't work. The slurpds don't vanish.

The only way I've found to stop ldap is to remove the slurpd.pid manually and
then to "killall slurpd". The kolabd also refuses to be stopped by
"/kolab/bin/openpkg rc openldap stop" and has to be killed too.

Then I can restart the server.

server packages from 20040906, but I also saw this often enough with the
packages from last week.

When this happened I was usually trying to test the deletion of users with the
web interface in various combinations (e.g. via the master's or the slave's
interface).

This might be related to issue368.
